LANSING, MI—Students from Western Michigan University will host the 28th annual Midwest Bisexual Lesbian Gay Transgender Asexual College Conference (MBLGTACC) from February 14-16, 2020 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

MBLGTACC, the flagship program of the Midwest Institute for Sexuality and Gender Diversity, is a three-day, student-run conference that includes a variety of keynote speakers, workshops, identity forums, and entertainment. The conference aims to connect, educate and empower students from across the region and nation.

In 2018, the MBLGTACC Oversight Committee selected WMU to host the event; and, for the past year, the student leadership team has been diligently moving through early planning stages. This will be the first time MBLGTACC has visited Kalamazoo. (And yes, there really is a Kalamazoo.)

“We are so excited to bring MBLGTACC to WMU and to Kalamazoo,” says Danielle Kropveld, a student at Western Michigan University and the public relations chair for MBLGTACC 2020. “With this conference, we want to try and build a strong community that centers on advocacy, education, and empowerment and, through that, look forward to a future together. It's a chance for us to encourage important dialogue for the queer and trans community, and to have fun while we're doing it.”

"Our team is thrilled to be heading back to Michigan for MBLGTACC 2020," says Roze R.B. Brooks, the director of operations for the Midwest Institute for Sexuality and Gender Diversity. "With many of our staff residing in Michigan and/or being alumnx of its numerous colleges and universities, we're looking forward to bringing these experiences together as we support this year’s planning team. We're also thrilled about the opportunity to do some localised work by building new conference partners in the very state our organization was incorporated."

The 2020 conference theme is Envisioning a Future Together. Conference registration and a call for workshop proposals are tentatively scheduled to launch in summer/fall 2019, with announcements of speakers and entertainers to follow starting in the late fall.
